I am a huge fan of author Diane Chamberlain and I read this book in one day.This book was good from page one. There are 3 stories sub in this novel. A divorced woman with a seriously ill child and an ex-husband and parents who oppose her at every turn. Then there is the story of an aging singer/actress with a daughter in prison. Two men, her ex-husband and current lover are constantly at odds who come to find a huge connection to each other when they have their confrontation. The scenes set deep in the forest and the tales of survival make this a great page turner.

This book is about renewal and gaining strength in the face of dire circumstances. All the characters grow and change in the story that is so well written you don’t want to put it down. There are many surprises as the tale takes twists and turns and the ending is quite believable in the face of unbelief!
This story of a child who needs dialysis almost daily and the fierce love of her mother, who will try even not so traditional treatments, in order to make her more healthy or live a better life for as long as she can. There are some twists and turns aling the plot that make you raise your eyebrows and say, "Wow, didn't see that coming!"
I truly enjoyed this read.....Diane Chamberlain is one of the best authors I have ever come across. I just finished "Fire and Rain" and now am onto "The Secrets She Left Behind."
Another great book by Diane. I have read all of her books and have never been disappointed. You can't go wrong by reading this author's books!
The book starts out extremely rough but luckily the writing gets better as the book goes on and the characters and their relationships really keep it afloat. The writing and all the different character details weigh down the effect of the story but it’s compelling enough to keep the reader with the story all the way through just to know what happens at the end.
Great story of two mothers' love for their daughters. One daughter, fighting to live - the other, possibly an evil addition to this world. Book was an excellent read and kept me guessing and engaged till the end. Diane Chamberlain is a terrific author - she really is able to write in a way that shows real, human emotions from her characters.
The synopsis is better--and better written--than the book. The novel never quite measures up. In fact, the synopsis makes the book sound better than it really is. Every single plot element is contrived and unrealistic. People behave badly--in some cases, very badly--and their loved ones somehow suffer zero ill effects. The mild misbehaviors of other characters turn their loved ones into maniacal murderers. This book made me regret that I usually finish books I begin. All these things made me suspect I was reading a self-published book, but no, it's commercially published. The editors really failed this author.
Also, if we slept on palettes, we'd wake up covered in paint.
